Pavilion in the park

A pavilion for outdoor teaching, commissioned by the municipality of Monza for a marginal area of the park. The brief called for covered space for groups of thirty children, usable from March to October, under a requirement of complete reversibility.

The structure is entirely larch, dry-assembled with exposed metal connections. No concrete foundations: the pavilion rests on screw piles that can be removed without trace. The whole building can be dismantled in five days.

The single-pitch roof collects water towards a buried tank feeding irrigation for the surrounding area. Three sides are open; the fourth, facing north, holds storage and services.

Untreated larch is a deliberate choice: the surface will grey unevenly according to exposure, and the pavilion will visibly age alongside the park.
